Class 101 — Arabian

Judge's critique — the model

Glare and reflections are always tough with high gloss, keep an eye out for your environment showing up on the horse.

The backdrop is blurry. To nit pick, you may want to watch the gap/ground under the hooves.

Boasts terrific muscle definition and dynamic forward reach. She makes me think fondly of endurance riding.

The level barrel-height shot and crisp sand footing capture the speed and motion beautifully, with clean lighting that highlights the satin coat.

Judge's critique — the model

front legs are set noticeably forward under the shoulder

Lovely photo, I'd prefer to see her opposite side though since the mane ends up covering up her neck and shoulder angle.

Judge's critique — the model

I like to see older style Arabians like this with a heavier bone and a straighter profile face.

Judge's critique — the photo

The photo is a bit fuzzy/blurry which makes some of the model details harder to see, especially the horse's face. Great photo anyways!

Judge's critique — the model

I'd like to see finer detailing in the muzzle

Judge's critique — the photo

The straight-on angle captures his profile nicely, but the lighting creates a bit of glare along his back and leaves the background looking a little dim.

Judge's critique — the model

The high gloss produces reflections that draw away from the horse's details which can make judging tricky.

Judge's critique — the photo

Black horses are always tough to photograph, add a gorgeous high gloss and its very hard to see details. I'd like to see the photo a bit brighter so his features don't get lost.

Judge's critique — the model

From this distance and angle, it's difficult to make fair judgement on the horse's conformation and condition.

Judge's critique — the photo

As much as I love the adorable picture, it hides a lot of the models details.

Judge's critique — the model

His back dips a bit through the loin and his hind legs stand somewhat straight and stretched out behind.

Judge's critique — the photo

Ziggy is framed cleanly at eye level to show him off well. The lighting seems to bring a glare along his back which in turn made his face difficult to see.

Judge's critique — the model

Heavy stylization in the trot held him back against the more structurally realistic movers.

Judge's critique — the photo

Perhaps a bit shadowy, Over all nice photo.
